How does Foto Facial work?

The laser/IPL device emits a range of light waves that are targeted at hemoglobin (the red blood cells in the blood vessels) or melanin (the brown pigment in freckles and age spots). The light beam passes through the skin and is absorbed by either hemoglobin or melanin resulting in damage to the vessel wall or fragmenting of melanin pigment. These tiny vessels and the melanin pigment are then absorbed by the body, rendering them less visible.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of Foto Facials you will need will depend on the condition of your skin and your desired results. Generally, patients need a series of 3-6 treatments, 4-8 weeks apart. You will be able to see improvement with each treatment. The more sun damage or redness you have, the more likely you are to need additional treatments.

How long does a Foto Facial treatment take and what will it feel like?

There may be mild discomfort during your treatment, but most patients tolerate a Foto Facial very easily. The first treatment might provide the most discomfort. As your skin begins to clear, the treatments usually become more comfortable. Treatments usually take 30-90 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area.

What will I look like right after the Foto Facial treatment and what is the healing time?

For veins, generally, the skin looks slightly redder after the treatment for two to five days. Makeup can be used immediately after the treatment, as long as it is applied and removed very gently. Rarely there is bruising which can take 1-2 weeks to resolve.
For freckles and age spots, the spots generally look darker for 3-7 days. Crusting can occur, which can last up to ten days. The lesions will then begin to clear and will generally begin resolving by one month. Remember, it takes an average of 3-5 treatments to clear age spots.

What results can I expect from Foto Facial treatments?

After your first treatment, you can expect to see some redness, darkening of brown spots, and light swelling. These symptoms will resolve in several hours to one week. Makeup can be immediately applied, if desired. After the treatment, your skin will feel smoother and have a more even tone. A gradual decrease in overall redness, flushing, age stops and fine lines will be more visible after each treatment.

How long do the results last?

The results of Foto Facial are long lasting. During your consultation, your aesthetician will discuss a proper skin care regimen with you so that you can maintain your results for as long as possible. The better you take care of your skin, the longer your Foto Facial results will last. Many patients come back once a year for touch-up treatments to rejuvenate their skin.

How does a Foto Facial increase collagen?

The laser light bypasses the outer layer of your skin to gently heat the cells located in the deeper layers of your skin. These cells will then start to produce more collagen though the stimulation, which improves the skin's texture.

Are there any side effects from a Foto Facial?

Side effects from a Foto Facial treatment are mild and might include temporary swelling, redness, and an occasional bruise or slight superficial blister similar to a sunburn.
